Our podiatrist, Nicola, brings a passion, unique skillset and diverse knowledge base to Enable Podiatry. Since obtaining her Bachelor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the University of Newcastle, Nicola set a course of gaining experience and expertise across a variety of settings.
Nicola has a passion and keen interest in diabetes and the management of the high-risk foot. This interest has been nurtured through appointment within multiple high-risk foot departments across Sydney and Newcastle. Nicola has been fortunate to work alongside some of Australia’s pioneers in diabetes, vascular intervention and orthopaedic surgery. Nicola currently consults as a senior Podiatrist within the High Risk Foot Service at John Hunter Hospital treating and managing complex foot and ankle pathologies.
In addition to Nicola’s in-depth experience within the public health industry she has also worked alongside podiatric foot and ankle surgeon Dr Haydar Ozcan. Through assisting Dr Ozcan with surgeries and also collaborating with him on patient cases Nicola was able to understand the complexity of foot and ankle surgery and how these procedures are utilised in the management of foot pathologies.
Education is an area of passion for Nicola, educating both patients, stakeholders and also current and future clinicians in the areas of foot health. Nicola holds an academic teaching and clinical supervisor role within the School of Health Sciences that forms part of the joint Podiatric Medicine program within the University of Newcastle and University of Western Sydney.
By incorporating evidence-based practices into her treatment plans this allows Nicola to ensure the best care is delivered to her patients each and every time.
Professional development is critical in maintaining currency within healthcare, Nicola holds additional qualifications in dermatology, dermoscopy, dry needling, advanced wound management and dementia prevention. Nicola is one of a few Podiatrists in Australia that possesses Endorsement for Scheduled Medicines, this allows her to prescribe and administer a class of medicines relating to Podiatric practice. Nicola also holds a Graduate Certificate in Public Health with Distinction and she has also embarked on a Masters of Public Health to broaden her scope of a practice and follow her passion for the health of her local community.
When Nicola is not in the clinic she is spending time with her ginger cavoodle Rosie, hiking, camping, exploring weekend getaways and sampling location coffee spots.
